Temporary car park closure – Thursday 10 September 2026

The front car park and parent drop-off zone at St Francis Xavier College will be closed for the full day on Thursday, 10 September 2026, as work continues on the College's new administration block.

The one-day closure allows contractors to carry out works safely and is a necessary step in delivering the new facilities that will serve students, staff and families for decades to come.

Principal Sandra Darley acknowledged the disruption the closure will cause for families.

"I am genuinely sorry for the inconvenience," Ms Darley said. "I know the morning and afternoon routine is a finely balanced thing for many families, and any change to it is unwelcome. We have kept the closure to a single day and planned it carefully so the impact is as small as we can make it."

What families need to know

No parent drop-off or pick-up on College grounds. There will be no vehicle access for parents and carers at any time on Thursday, 10 September. Families are asked to arrange for students to walk, ride, catch the bus or be dropped off away from the College entrance. Please do not stop or park across the front gate.

Front gates close at 9.00am. Students should arrive before this time so they can move safely on to site before the gates are secured.

Senior students who drive. Senior students may still park in the student car park, provided they arrive before 9.00am. Once on site, vehicles cannot be moved and students cannot leave until 3.30pm. This is for their own safety and for the safety of contractors working on site.

All students remain on site until 3.30pm. Students will not be able to leave the College during the day unless families have been advised otherwise. If a student has a medical or other appointment that cannot be moved, families should contact the College office in advance so safe arrangements can be made.

Western bike lockers unavailable. Students who ride to school will be directed to alternative bike storage on arrival.

Staff car park open for staff only. This area must not be used for drop-off or pick-up.

Staff on site from 7.45am

College staff will be positioned at the front of the College and across the road from the gate from 7.45am to guide students safely on to site. Drivers in the area are asked to slow down, follow staff directions and take extra care around the school.

Relevant authorities, including Transport Canberra, have been notified of the change.

Questions

Families with questions, or who need to discuss particular arrangements for their child, can contact the College office on 02 6258 1055 or email school.office@sfx.act.edu.au.

"The temporary inconvenience of one day will, I am confident, be well worth the outstanding new facilities our community will enjoy for many years to come," Ms Darley said.
